Proposal: A Guild WAR?
I saw this proposal in another thread:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=28312
And found it great. What about a war for control, where guilds adhere to factions (could be world regions or reigns, like before charr invasion: Kryta, Ascalon, And Remnants of Orr) that fight to control areas of the map? Teams could form to fight for prevalence in each "area" of the map, and guilds would get fame and "balthazar compensation" (or however it is called) from it.
You can travel to "battle areas" with a team and fight for prevalence against others. A battle starts every 5 minutes (or so) and whomever is in at that time fights PvP - the winner brings the area to his faction. Implementation details may vary, but it would mean a real "guild war"
If anyone has played or knows the "Shattered Galaxy" online strategy game (it's free), that's what I'm thinking about. Anyone would like it? It would be a diversion in the HoH, Fissure, whatever routine, and sure to grant many months of fun, at least for the PvP people.
I'd like to hear your comments. Constructive, possibly

I think that sounds like a much more reasonable thing than the WaW. I would like to see something that pertains more to the -game- and less to nationalistic tendencies.

I've, as well as many others have posted ideas about actual wars in the game and how to implement them. We all know ArenaNet has heard us. We all know that they haven't said no.
This leads me to assume that it is under review and it is quite possible that it will be implemented eventually in some form or another if they can work out how implement it practically and what idea they will use.
However, I play this game for what it is and enjoy it to the fullest, not because of what it will be. I just hope that it will still be just as if not more enjoyable then it is now for me as it changes. So far, the way things are going, there is nothing to say otherwise.

I think your dead right
After playing it for a long time now.. its apparent to me that the emphasis on 'GUILD' is a little bit different in reality to what you originally expect!
I love the game for all its good points and the odd way in which its negative or quirky points make it more interesting, but I cant help but have a feeling of disapointment about what the game's title leads you to imagine.
apart from the out-of-game emphasis on 'Guilds' with the likes of GOTW..ladders and tournaments, there isnt much IN-GAME that makes you feel you have just stepped into a world where being part of a guild is what the whole thing is about! let alone a war!
I suppose it all comes from the storyline.. the storyline goes on about previous 'guildwars'.. so I assume that its currently SET in a guildwar.. but thats only relevant to the storyline.. not really the PVP, which is what you expect the game to be all about considering the games title.
There definatly needs to be a great deal more reasons to be part of a guild.. and then they need to give those guilds alot more things to do WITH their guild... Its a hell of a job keeping people interested.. I think the 'war' idea would definatly bring more meaning to the games title.
there is alot of PVP.. and PVE and GVG.. but we now need GVE.. so several Guilds can band together in large zones battling un-told amounts of baddies n boss's

that would be awesome. just think about the possibilities of the scale of war? with thousands fighting in one instance, i know there would be a heavy load on the servers. imagine having a 56k modem in a battle like that? that could be brutal.

i like the idea. the charr threat began with guild wars. it'd be appropriate to relive the guild wars era of the storyline. it could be a huge pvp and pve battle, where there are tons of people and creatures to fight. an endless war. you get faction points from killing other players as well. another incentive to play pvp.

Awesome! Could you imagine kinda like some of the battles in the movie(s) LOTR where we line up and go into battle against a Char army, or the White Mantle!? Perhaps it could be a whole guild trying to defend a castle while the Char assult it, or the reverse!
Perhaps a co-op with other guilds to fight a common enemy. Or a classic guild verses guild in differing terrains(allowing 25v25 or higher).
I definately think this games got a lot of potential beyond simple team deathmatches and protect the monk!
Great ideas !!!!

Will you ever post something useful? Or maybe express your own opinion without trying to destroy others'? Of course not.
Great idea, though it would probably have to be refined in many ways since there is a server system that can't be modified radically...it has been stated before. A compelling way to see the pvp in game, kudos to the original poster.

NICE.
I think this maybe way too complex to be implemented in an update. if they make a separate expansion on it that would be cool too.
